How it started to how it's going: BiG POPPA → BiG [DiG] → OiDiGi → OiLoGiC

Since 2016, I’ve been scribbling hip-hop lyrics onto thrifted paintings and religious prints — turning old images into something new. Just like hip-hop samples old tunes into fresh beats, I sample iconic lyrics onto forgotten art. Signed with BiG Poppa — my alter ego and homage to The Notorious B.I.G.
What started in my thrift shop turned into something bigger. BiG Poppa caught some unexpected attention on social media and ended up selling 100+ pieces worldwide. These days, I only work on antique oil paint portraits — rarer to find, but definitely worth the hunt. Unfortunately that means B.P. originals are limited and drop irregularly. When antique portraits got harder to come by, I went fully digital — a new alter ego was born: BiG [DiG] Poppa. Same attitude, different canvas. I started remixing high-res masterpieces, layering in analog-style scribbles, textures and typography. More freedom. More control. Still 100% BiG Poppa.
DiGiTALLY REMiXiNG
For the BiG [DiG] series I dive into the extensive collection of the Rijksmuseum, looking for old Dutch masters, waiting to be flipped. Each painting gets remixed with handwritten hip-hop lyrics and scribbles, bold fonts and additional textures. It's were old school meets new school — turning stuffy historical fragments into fresh contemporary visuals. View all BiG {DiG] prints → SHOP

Work in Progress: swipe to see how a BiG [DiG] piece is built like a track. From sample to finished artwork. An old masterpiece forms the beat. Lyrics drop in like verses. Tags and textures add the groove. Layer by layer, the artwork grows — chopped, cut, remixed — until the final mix is crisp and loud enough to make a statement.

While experimenting in digital form, something unexpected happened — I started drifting. Antique paintings made way for vintage photography. Hand lettering gave in to bold fonts. Colours got louder. Layers got deeper. A visual side project evolved into something new: OiDiGi.
BEETJE HOOP
A commissioned project — the artwork for the single "Beetje Hoop" by Timmietex — actually sparked the transformation from BiG [DiG] into OiDiGi.
CHOPPiNG & CUTTiNG
For the OiDiGi series I dive into dusty boxes full forgotten photos, snapshots with a story, waiting to be chopped. When an image hits the right note, I start digging for a matching sample — a line, a lyric, a quote with some bite. Then the digital remixing begins: chopped images, rough textures, bold colours, layered cuts, hand lettering and bold fonts — turning old fragments into a new stories. View all OiDiGi prints → SHOP

Work in Progress: swipe to see how a OiDiGi piece is built like a beat — layer by layer. A raw photo sample forms the baseline, textures drop in like drums, colours splash like synths. Fonts and hand lettering wrap it all up, flowing on top like a hook. You can see my process uncut: from the first rough layer to the final mix.

After going all-in on digital with OiDiGi, I felt the itch to go back. Back to paper, paint, ink and glue. But this time, armed with techniques learned in pixels. OiLoGiC is a raw, analog response to a digital rhythm — built on layers, textures, mixed media and a visual logic only I need to understand. This one’s more process than product. More feeling than finish. This is the analog aftermath.
MIXED MEDIA
What started as a zine workshop in Rotterdam turned into a new obsession. Thrifted magazines, vintage illustrations, textures, colours, paper — cut, tear, glue, repeat. Mixed media: creating new worlds from old fragments.
